Intern Diaries – Meet Liv and Amy

This year we are excited to welcome our new interns; Liv and Amy who will be joining us for work placements whilst finishing their final year of college. We are excited to see them flourish in a working environment. Here’s what they have to say…

Olivia Shelton-Smith, Graphic Design Student:

Hi I’m Olivia, also known as Liv. I’m currently studying my second year of graphic design at Burton and South Derbyshire College. At the end of September, I began my industry/work placement at We Are Ghost for a year. We are expected to do 150 hours of work experience in order to help us gain insight into the design industry and help us pass the course. I’m really enjoying studying graphic design, and when presented with the idea of students doing a work placement, I was quite excited as it would give me a taste for what a real-world graphic design company was like. I’m looking forward to working alongside my colleagues at Ghost on live briefs and getting a feel for working on real briefs for clients.

I would describe myself as very sociable, I enjoy talking to people and having a laugh! Outside of college and placement, I’m a part-time waitress and have recently been helping out with a local dog-walking business, which I love as I have two little dogs of my own, which sometimes I walk 3 times a day! I’m a big animal softie, and adore both my dogs and all 4 of my cats! When I’m not swamped by college work, I like to see my friends as much as I can, especially the friends who stayed on at sixth form or who have gone to different colleges.

Amy Griffiths, Graphic Design Student:

Hi I’m Amy, a full time, 3rd year student at Burton and South Derbyshire college. I’m currently studying graphic design and have been lucky enough to receive an amazing placement opportunity at We Are Ghost; learning the ins and outs of the design industry in a working environment. I have been here for two weeks and have already been given the opportunity to independently work on a brief to create a corporate brand identity, which I’m really enjoying.

Outside of college I’m a rugby player for an amazing team in Castle Donington playing as a scrum half. I have been involved in rugby for around 4 years and have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it, I have even been able to complete my refereeing and coaching courses and now I’m proud to say that I’m qualified to ref and coach younger members of the team legally and safely.

We’re a team of creatives who believe that our individual abilities and perspectives are amplified when we come together to create change for our clients.
